James (Jim) Compliment is a highly trained professional with over 35 years of experience in the field of health care and the medical management of both children and adults, including several specialties within a variety of locations such as Johns Hopkins University, VA Medical Centers, and in the Middle East during deployment. He has served in occupational and industrial medicine, emergency and internal medicine, pediatric otolaryngology, gastroenterology, as a DOT examiner, as an advanced flight nurse, and within clinical research at Allegheny General Hospital.
Jim recently retired from the U.S. Army Reserves with 30 years of service at the rank of Colonel. He served four tours of duty to the Middle East and three humanitarian tours in the United- States. In the Middle East, Jim had several responsibilities: Nurse Practitioner, Deputy- Command Surgeon, Interim Chief of Staff, Command Safety Director for the Command of Middle East Operations, and Deputy Commander of Clinical Services for patient care. During the COVID pandemic, Jim served as the Commander for the Army’s 228-1UAMTF COVID response team in Texas.
For GGC, Jim works closely with our clinical staff, behavioral health advisors, and education team. He provides expertise and support on SMART®’s integrative, Whole Child approach by offering consultation, expertise, and training to SMART® start-up operations, clinical staff, and subject matter experts. Jim also serves as a liaison with SMART® Medical Provider Partners, including organizational leadership and local SMART® Teams. He provides consultation and advice on interviewing, selecting, training, and mentoring SMART® Clinical Teams, which cohesively prepares them to embed within the education systems with SMART®’s Active Access and Active Care protocols, standards, training curriculum, data collection, and evaluation standards.
On a local level, Jim proactively manages the health and wellness of LIFE Male STEAM Academy’s students, parents, staff, and faculty. His medical license enables him to diagnose illness and injury, provide treatment, prescribe appropriate medication, and work closely with the SMART® behavioral health provider(s) to support our Whole Child focus.
Jim earned his Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner, from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Duquesne University.
